Terra Hortus Micro Community

The notes below explain how the Community is structured and how it will develop.  As an emerging entity it will fix its manifesto as it develops.  We wish to be broadly inclusive within some boundaries  that we think make for a vibrant community.  Please comment

Ownership, Occupancy and Finances

There are no shared investment or potential loss of capital concerns.  The property is owned by Garry.  He provides all tools and equipment that are needed to work the property and all materials  that will become part of the property.

This overcomes some of the problems that communities can face and hopefully allows more freedom than other models

People who stay on the property pay small weekly fee to cover costs not generate a fortune. If we have surplus fromo selling stuff it minimises payments for those who have stayed 2 months plus. Together we build the cottages we live in with the land owner providing all materials.

We are big on balance, We combine to grow great food, eat and reward ourselves with lots of leisure.!.  There are no absolute requirements, we do what we can / want to do.

Visit or stay, its up to you. You might make us a good part of your grey nomad adventure, you might love the idea of an active productive retirement, maybe you just want to get away from your life.  Many roads lead here.

Excluding the cattle operation, profit from all other activities of the property are available for distribution to those involved in the activity for more than 2 months in the form of in lieu of fees. We dont get into messy money stuff.

Governance

Terra Hortus is a MICRO community.  A handful very small dwellings, plus caravans.

Although we hope it never occurs it is understandable that the owner may deny access at his own discretion to anyone anytime.

Decisions taken will usually be by consensus but each decision requires the owner's agreement.

Drug use, violence or any criminal activity will not be tolerated

DOGS    Yes    -     DOGMATICS  No

If you own it, pets can stay in it.  A small area can be fenced.  You must ensure they do not cause a nuisance to others.

Dogmatic ideologies are not welcome!

While we are great mates  we are also diverse individuals with different interests.  We live near a large town that supports lots of these.  We don't work to live. Some of us are retired and are happy to do some work as a means of living better.  Often we forget the work and go join our townie mates for some quilting, tennis or ???

We are NOT trying to save the world or demonstrate anything.  It is just a handful of decent folks enjoying a relaxed rural environment.

What's in it for you?

This is an easy way to try country living in a supportive environment.  A "tree change" is a great idea but going bush can be scary requiring a whole of life commitment.  Here you have the support of a small group of others and also have the opportunity for personal input.

Its EASY

  • No capital investment

  • No time commitment

  • Possibility of long term involvement so your inputs are your reward

  • Very inexpensive weekly fee

  • Start off in a caravan and we'll help you build a small home of your own choosing.. Design your own dwelling. You pay nothing for materials and we'll all help you build.

  • If you have an existing property there is no doubt you can rent it for much more than the weekly occupancy fee.  Live well on the extra income with the option to go back to your home anytime.

  • Do your creative stuff, make wine, pottery, almost anything - its your gig!

  • You will learn so much you can use in any other rural environment

  • You'll be living a purposeful, active life with the option to share your leisure and be truly enmeshed with others that share some of your lifestyle choices

  • You can leave and know you are coming back you your second home and good mates.

WHY ?

OK ... its all very nice .... but why does this dude who owns the farm land decide he wants other people there. What does he want to get out of all this.

Good Question, thanks for asking it.    Basically he, Garry, has lived on property before and loved it, but he was a lazy, idle, drongo.  He loves to get out and do stuff but knows he kinda needs something bigger than his own ego to drive it.  ALSO ... he is a social animal.  He likes company.  AND  he is scared of being on his own in the bush.  At 58 he no longer believes he is superman ... he kinda needs others to feel secure.

He is financially ok ... and really it is not a great risk for him. More Questions ? .... email and ask
